Avery Dennison has announced a new strategic partnership with SOPREMA, significantly expanding its AD Circular liner recycling program. SOPREMA will serve as Avery Dennison’s primary liner recycling partner across Europe and will transform used glassine liners into sustainable building insulation.

Through this partnership, Avery Dennison aims to enable partners in the labeling and packaging industry to embrace circular economy principles. By leveraging SOPREMA’s established recycling infrastructure and expertise, AD Circular will be able to offer enhanced operational efficiency and scalability. It will also improve access for customers looking to responsibly recycle their used glassine liners. This will help customers further achieve their critical sustainability goals.

Under AD Circular, SOPREMA will collect liners manufactured by any brand or supplier across various countries in Europe. Each year, clients are complemented with an annual certification offering clear, quantifiable proof of total tonnage of liner recycled.

Repurposing liners

What’s more, collected liners will now be repurposed into high-performance cellulose wadding for building insulation. This aims to make buildings more energy efficient, decrease the demand for virgin resources, and promote a more circular and sustainable economy. For example, one ton of glassine liners can insulate up to two attics. This can last for the entire lifetime of the building, significantly extending the useful life of these resources.

“Our partnership with SOPREMA highlights the transformative potential of cross-industry collaboration. By combining our strengths and expertise, we’re able to significantly scale our sustainability impact, driving circularity not only within labeling and packaging but across the broader construction sector. It’s these collaborative innovations that are essential for creating meaningful, lasting progress toward a sustainable future,” explains Sophia Savvides, director, Sustainability & Strategy, Avery Dennison EMENA.
